# How to Turn Product Photos into Video Ads with AI

You don't need a video shoot to make a product video ad. With a few good product photos, Glif can animate your product, build a sequence of shots, add voiceover, music and captions, and deliver an ad sized for each platform. This guide walks through it step by step.

**What you'll need:** product photos, a short ad brief, and an idea of the sound you want. **Estimated cost:** 160–380 credits for a finished ad with the [Product Ad with Seedance 2.0](https://glif.app/chat/cards/create-a-product-ad-with-seedance-2-0--b28Zb2Mx) workflow. Drafts and shorter clips cost less. Full video generation needs the Pro plan or above; see Credits and Payments.

## Step 1: Prepare your product photos

* Use **clean, well-lit photos**, ideally on a plain background.
* Include **more than one angle** if you can.
* Make sure **labels and logos are sharp**.
* If you already have a lifestyle photo you like, include it as a starting frame.

## Step 2: Decide the basics

Answer these before you write the brief:

| Question | Example |
| :- | :- |
| Where will it run? | TikTok and Reels |
| What shape? | 9:16 vertical (1:1 or 4:5 for feed, 16:9 for YouTube) |
| How long? | 15 seconds |
| What's the one message? | "Cold brew that's smooth enough to drink black" |
| What should viewers do? | "Find it in store" |
| What sound? | Upbeat voiceover, light acoustic music |

## Step 3: Write a shot-by-shot brief

Video models follow detailed direction best. Describe what happens second by second, including camera movement and sound.

> "15-second 9:16 ad for this cold brew can (photos attached). 0–2s: Hook. Extreme close-up of condensation sliding down the can, cold blue light. Sound: ice cracking. 2–6s: Camera pulls back to reveal the can on a sunny café counter; a hand picks it up. Voiceover: 'Cold brew, smooth enough to drink black.' 6–11s: Quick cuts: pouring over ice, a first sip, a smile. Upbeat acoustic music builds. 11–15s: Can centered on the counter, logo facing camera. Text on screen: 'Find it near you.' Voiceover: 'Find it near you.' Keep the can's label and colors exactly as in the photos. Draft quality first."

You can also start from the [Product Ad with Seedance 2.0](https://glif.app/chat/cards/create-a-product-ad-with-seedance-2-0--b28Zb2Mx) workflow, which asks Glif to use second-by-second prompting and to help you work out the voiceover and music. Upload your product shots when it asks.

## Step 4: Review the draft

Watch it with the sound on and check:

* **The first two seconds:** would this stop someone scrolling?
* **The product:** does it look right in every shot? Check the label, color and shape.
* **Motion:** anything warped, glitchy or unnatural?
* **Sound:** is the voiceover clear and the music right for the brand?
* **Text:** spelled correctly and on screen long enough to read?

## Step 5: Refine

Ask for specific changes and say what to keep:

> "Keep shots 2–4. Replace the opening with a slow pour of cold brew over ice in slow motion. Make the music a little quieter under the voiceover."

To test hooks, ask for variations in one message:

> "Make three versions with different openings: condensation close-up, ice dropping into a glass, and the can being pulled from a fridge. Keep everything after 2 seconds identical."

## Step 6: Add captions and make every size

* **Captions:** ask Glif to add subtitles; most people watch social video with the sound off.
* **Other platforms:** "Make a 1:1 version for feed and a 16:9 version for YouTube."
* **Shorter cuts:** "Make a 6-second version using the hook and the end card."

## Step 7: Finalize

When you've picked a winner, ask Glif to produce or upscale it at final quality. Draft first and finalize only the versions you'll run; it saves credits.

## Choosing a video model

Glif picks a model for you, but you can ask for one. Some options on Glif:

| Model | Why you might choose it |
| :- | :- |
| [Seedance 2.0](https://glif.app/models/video/seedance-20) and [Seedance 2.5](https://glif.app/models/video/seedance-25) | Video with synchronized audio from an image; start and end frames on Seedance 2.0 |
| [Kling O3 Pro](https://glif.app/models/video/kling-o3-pro-image) | 3–15 second clips from an image, multi-shot prompts, optional audio |
| [Hailuo H3 Max](https://glif.app/models/video/hailuo-h3-max) | Video with audio; lower-cost drafts at 480p or 768p |
| [Grok Imagine Video 1.5](https://glif.app/models/video/grok-imagine-video-15) | 1–15 second clips with audio from an image |

Costs per second are on each model's page and at [glif.app/models/pricing](https://glif.app/models/pricing).

## Want a person in the ad?

For talking-to-camera, unboxing or review-style ads, see Video Studio and Characters. AI creators are fictional; don't present their videos as real customer testimonials.

## Agent Reference

### Workflow card

| Field | Value |
| :- | :- |
| Card | Create a product ad with Seedance 2.0 |
| URL | `https://glif.app/chat/cards/create-a-product-ad-with-seedance-2-0--b28Zb2Mx` |
| For | DTC brands, growth teams, launch teasers |
| Bring | Product shots + ad brief + audio direction |
| Estimated cost | 160–380 credits |

### Brief structure

1. Platform, aspect ratio, total length
2. Timestamped beats (`0–2s`, `2–6s`, …) with subject, action, camera movement, sound and on-screen text
3. Voiceover lines in quotes
4. Music direction
5. End card text and CTA
6. Fixed product attributes ("label and colors exactly as in the photos")
7. Draft or final quality

### Request pattern

json

```json theme={null}
{
  "name": "compose_project",
  "arguments": {
    "prompt": "15-second 9:16 ad for this cold brew can. 0–2s: extreme close-up of condensation, cold blue light, sound of ice cracking. 2–6s: pull back to sunny café counter, hand picks up can; VO 'Cold brew, smooth enough to drink black.' 6–11s: quick cuts of pour, sip, smile; upbeat acoustic music. 11–15s: can centered, logo to camera, on-screen text and VO 'Find it near you.' Keep label and colors exactly as in the photos. Draft quality.",
    "asset_ids": ["img_PRODUCTXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"]
  }
}
```

* Confirm platform, length, number of versions and draft/final before calling; video is the most expensive output.
* Request hook variations in the same call; continue in the same `project_id` for edits, captions, resizes and finals.
* Full video generation requires the Pro plan or above (Starter has limited video).
